As stated elsewhere, Amtrak, despite whatever President Obama or Vice President Biden might desire, has no intention of reviving passenger train service on the Gulf Coast......in ANY form. That should be obvious now to everyone except the most dedicated die hards. Amtrak was actively looking for a way to cancel passenger train service along the Gulf Coast before Katrina even formed. In fact, Amtrak service had all but ceased before the storm. That decision seemingly represented a complete collapse and reversal of previous STB handling of the case. It reportedly came after oil-industry favorite, Oklahoma US Senator James Inhofe, sought to influence the STB.

Meanwhile, actual cost of ODOT's "little $236 million highway project," the relocation of a mere four miles of I-40 through the rail yard, has reportedly now skyrocketed through $800 million -- with significant elements remaining unfinished, and without a monetary value ever having been assigned to the lost 8-block-long, 12-track-wide OKC Union Station rail center, its beautiful arterial street underpasses and related elements.

You'd think Oklahoma government and its "Department of Transportation" had money to burn. And they apparently "do" -- as long as it means crippling obvious prospects for a ready-made, statewide rail passenger transport system.

www.advancedtransport.orgTOM ELMOREhttp://www.advancedtransport.orgnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8370603941740321751.post-35600307030486428232010-07-16T01:38:59.760-04:002010-07-16T01:38:59.760-04:00This informative post has the potent to give preci...This informative post has the potent to give precise info about the travel and florida rail news that have positive effect on the field of various travel and transportation services also. People here in the Southeast have spent the money and have gone through the hard work to develop an HSR corridor--by adding routes, stations and frequencies.
